15. Control your dandruff.

You might think that the above list of benefits of coconut oil is a lot, but in fact, this is just a conservative list. There’s more than what coconut oil can do for you. Eat it. Apply to your skin. And experience the amazing health and skin benefits that coconut oil will bring to you.

However, as there are about 4 types of coconut oil available in the market such as virgin, fractionated, RBD (refined, bleached and deodorized) and hydrogenated, it’s best to consume and use topically only the virgin coconut oil type as it provides the most health benefits.

Refined oil, especially hydrogenated, may cause harmful side effects since you’re ingesting trans fatty acid along with the oil which will more or less offset some of the natural nutritional benefits of coconut oil. Also, refined oil will clog up your pores when apply to skin whereas virgin coconut oil will not.

That’s why when you buy coconut oil for your health and skin benefits, choose only the virgin type. For even more radiant health and smoother skin, get organic virgin coconut oil which is free of pesticides.

Adult Acne – Treatment For Mature Skin by Gerrald Hendrix

by: Gerrald Hendrix

Adult acne, affecting approximately 25% of men and 50% of women, 25-40 years old, is hardly rare. In fact dermatologists are reporting more cases at present than were seen in previous decades. Just as challenging to treat as at any age, and more apt to scar, “mature” conditions can be even more frustrating to cure. At the time of life when you thought you had outgrown skin problems, you’re searching for successful treatment. Your hard work to live well, may be taking its toll on your lifestyle and wellness.

It’s pretty much agreed by all that your outbreaks are the result of a chain reaction. The secretion of excess oil, along with dead skin cells, becomes trapped in your skin’s pores. Bacteria breeds in this environment, infection follows and you note the symptoms of adult acne. Areas affected may be more widespread than most teenage cases. Adults will often note outbreaks on the neck, shoulders, back or chest in contrast to the facial conditions more common in teenagers.

The search for causes that trigger an outbreak is what keeps researchers busy. Causes not only vary, but vary in their reactions from person to person. Hormonal changes are thought to be a key factor, occurring in both males and females. Male hormones, or androgens, present also in females, trigger the oil producing process by the sebaceous glands. Thus the chain reaction begins.

Some causes may be:

• Environmental such as exposure to certain chemicals, oils, etc.
• Certain types of cosmetics
• Diet deficiencies
• Stress
• Anabolic steroids, bulking and weight gaining preparations
• Medications such as hormones, anticonvulsants, psychotropics, etc.
• Prescriptions containing iodine or lithium
• Anti-epileptic drugs
• Vitamin and mineral deficiencies
• Heredity/genetics

Adult acne treatment as you can see may be a process of elimination. Any one of the above and more can be the cause, or one part of the cause, of your condition. Often the “cause” is a combination of issues that make up your lifestyle, rather than any one contributor. The simple basics that you can do will still apply though. Gently wash the affected areas to rid your skin of excess oils using mild soaps or cleansers. Be careful not to irritate or over-dry.

A careful lifestyle review may be the first place to start. Take an honest look at how healthy you are living. A serious attempt at healing and prevention will require a serious examination. Modern life, with all its stress, is known to take a heavy toll on the mind and body. Stress not only affects hormones, it also suppresses the immune system in the epidermis of your skin. Stress may be inevitable but stress is also controllable. Seek out some stress reducing methods, exercises, or even a relaxing hobby.

The facts presented here are for informational purposes only, so consult with your doctor or dermatologist. You’re not odd. With the increased awareness in more adults of health and wellness issues, comes an increased seeking of treatment. To delay is to risk an increase in severity and possible scarring. Mature skin by nature is more apt to scar.

In addition to the possible physical damage, there is also the emotional, such as loss of confidence and withdrawal. Adult acne is common, and it is treatable. You owe it to yourself for health of body and peace of mind to seek help and advice.

The Power of Unbelief by Jon Straumfjord – ArticleCity.com

by: Jon Straumfjord

The Lord is actively searching for men and women of faith, and He takes great delight in those of faith. People of faith also serve as examples to other believers as conduits of the Lord’s power. Obviously, every believer should greatly desire to be such a person of faith, not only for his/her own personal benefit, but also for the benefit of other observers, the Church, and the Lord, as He works to accomplish His will on the earth. So why aren’t more Christians living in powerful faith? The answer is unbelief:

Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Matt 13:58, NKJV)

.. a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.”

Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour.

Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?”

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matt 17:14-21, NKJV)

Unbelief is a powerful weapon of the Enemy, and is an unclean spirit that the Church has allowed to reign free within the Church. Not only have we allowed this spirit to cripple the work of the Lord through the Church, we have actually aided, abetted, and embraced this demon!

Now how can I make such a statement? Hasn’t the Church continually desired to walk in power? NO! Not at all! The Church has continually promoted unbelief at virtually every point! We have redefined power words like “faith” (the Spirit of God Who empowers the work of the Lord) as “fainthearted desire,” “prophecy” (the Spirit of God Who proclaims the Lord’s desires and intentions) to mean “inspired preaching,” “hope” (the confident expectation of the completion of God’s promises) as “positive hopeless contemplation,” “miracles” (the supernatural working of the Lord in our world) as “serendipity,” “apostle” (the Lord’s specially anointed spokesman with power) as “missionary,” etc.

We have robbed the Church of our very birthright in Christ! By manipulating our thoughts and altering the definitions of the words we use, we have stolen faith from ourselves, the Church, and the Lord Himself, and have enabled our Enemy:

Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief (Hebrews 3:12a, NKJV)

Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. (Romans 11:20ab, NKJV)

To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled. (Titus 1:15, NKJV)

If we are ever going to grasp the spiritual power that is our birthright, we need to stop redefining the powerful words the Lord has given us, return to the original definitions, and contemplate our wealth.

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Prov 23:7a, NKJV)

America s Favorite Dog Breeds by Linda Betarno

by: Linda Betarno

Each year, the American Kennel Club releases a list of the most popular dog breeds. This list is created by the types of dogs that are registered with the AKC. The top five dog breds for 2009 are Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, Yorkshire Terriers, Golden Retrievers, and Beagles.

Labrador retrievers have been an American favorite for nineteen years running. These dogs are considered very loyal and affectionate, which is why they are a highly sought after breed. Labs are great swimmers and great all-around athletes. They love to play catch and retrieve with their owners. Their strong muscular bodies make them great service dogs for the blind, epileptic or other special needs individuals.

Labs come in one of three colors. Black is the most common, followed closely by yellow. Chocolate labs are less common but provide a beautiful rich color that many seek out. Labs are the descendants of St. John’s Dog, a breed that originated in Newfoundland. The retriever name actually comes from their historical use for hunting and retrieving birds of the water such as ducks. Labradors have coats that repel water more easily than other dogs, and they also have brawny legs, webbed toes, and thick, wide tails that make them strong swimmers.

German shepherds, the second most popular dog breed for 2009, originate from Germany. They are known for being highly intelligent, strong and easy to train. This is why they were used for military purposes in both the First and Second World Wars, as well as for police dogs and search and rescue dogs throughout the world. The size and strength of a German shepherd can be daunting, but these dogs are also very lovable and loyal with their families.

Yorkshire terriers, the favorite small dog for 2009, are short, stocky dogs with blue and tan coats. Their hair, which is usually very fine and straight, makes them a preferred hypoallergenic dog for allergy sufferers. Their hair can be kept short with regular grooming sessions or it can be grown longer as is often the case with show dogs.

Yorkies is the nickname for Yorkshire terriers. These dogs originated in Yorkshire, England in the 1800s. They are a favorite lap dog and enjoy being spoiled. Although, they may be small, they are very vocal, which makes them great watchdogs to alert their owners of any visitors or even of trouble.

Golden retrievers pull in solidly at fourth on the 2009 best of dog breeds list. These beautiful dogs have a cheerful temperament that is contagious and loved by many. They are great with children, which makes them among the first choices for family dogs. Like the Labrador retriever, there loyalty, strength and smarts make them great service dogs.

The golden retriever breed originated in Scotland as gun dogs in the retrieval of ducks during hunting. These dogs have been bred to be gentle with their mouths to avoid damaging the hunt. This is part of what makes them so great with children. They seem to understand the importance of being gentle.

Beagles, fifth on the AKC list, are energetic , great tempered and funny loving dogs. Like the other four dogs, they are great family dogs. There size is usually small or medium, which is much preferred by some who find larger dog breeds overwhelming. Although beagles are smaller, they are still quite strong. These hound dogs are known for their very vocal howls as well as their great sense of smell. This makes them great at hunting or even search and rescue missions. Their history as small game hunters can be traced from England and may even date back to Ancient Greece.

Pet Meds that Could Make Life Easier for your Furry Friends by Jake …

by: Jake Parkhurst

Having an animal in your life can be a remarkably rewarding experience. When you take a dog or a cat into your home you are giving them a chance at a bright and loving future. But of course, you will get a lot out of this relationship as well.

There is nothing like walking in your front door and being greeted by a happy, slobbering puppy. Few things are more comforting than sitting on the couch and having your cat quietly crawl up into your lap.

But caring for an animal is a lot of hard work as well. Not only do you have to make sure that they are eating right, exercising and getting a lot of love and affection, but you have to do everything in your power to heal them when they are sick.

Animals get sick just like people do, but the problem is they can’t tell you their symptoms. That is why it is important to take your dog or cat straight to the vet whenever anything seems out of the ordinary. Here are a few pet medications that you might encounter the next time your special friend is feeling under the weather.

Novox (carpofen) Caplets

There are several different occasions when your veterinarian might prescribe your dog Novox caplets. For one, they might help to reduce pain after your dog has had orthopedic or soft tissue surgery. More commonly, however, your vet will recommend Novox for dogs that suffer from osteoarthritis.

Arthritis in dogs is becoming almost as common as it is in humans. Part of this is due to over-breeding, but the main reason is that because of advances in veterinary technology, dogs are simply living to an older age these days. This medication will help to reduce inflammation in the joints and can also help to reduce pain.

In many instances, your vet will recommend a glucosamine product in addition to anti-inflammatory medicine. The Novox will help to reduce pain at the moment, but the glucosamine will help prevent it from getting worse.

Cosequin Soft Chews

Human beings will often use a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement to help maintain full functionality in their joints. Veterinarians have now developed similar supplements designed specifically for dogs.

Cosequin is administered to provide cartilage support to pets who suffer from arthritis. Even if your dog doesn’t have arthritis, you can talk to your vet and see if a glucosamine and chondroitin supplement like Cosequin can help to prevent it from developing in the future.

Cosequin is convenient because you can administer the chewable tablet with food. The best way to get your pet to swallow it is to wrap it up in a piece of cheese and pretend you are giving them a special treat. Just make sure they swallow the medicine and don’t just eat the good stuff and spit out the pill.

Amitriptyline Tablets

It can be frightening when your cat starts exhibiting erratic behavior. Grooming is normal, but sometimes cats do it so excessively that they can hurt themselves. Other times you might catch them spraying urine around the house. And sometimes you can just tell that they are going through separation anxiety every time you walk out the door.

Cats go through mental problems just like human beings do. Amitriptyline is a drug that can treat many of these behavioral problems in your cat. Not only can it help to curb behavior issues, but your vet may also prescribe it to reduce chronic pain from a nerve injury or to treat inflammation from a urinary tract infection. As with any medication regiment, be sure to talk to your veterinarian first to see if these tablets are right for your cat.

Gabapentin Capsules and Tablets

The first time you see your pet go through a seizure can be a frightening experience. Living with an epileptic pet can also make you nervous all the time. What if you are at the dog park and your pup suffers a seizure? Will it freak out the other dogs and lead them to attack your pet?

Gabapentin is a medication that is designed to help control seizures in cats or dogs. Sometimes your vet may also prescribe this drug to reduce chronic pain from a recent surgery or due to arthritis. For seizure control, your vet will normally recommend that you administer the drug three times every day. However, if you are only using it for a pain reducer, then you might only have to give it to your dog or cat once or twice a day.

The responsibilities that come with having a pet are well worth the rewards. When you do everything in your power to keep your dog or cat happy and healthy, they will be sure to repay you with unconditional love for years to come.
